Equitech manufactures over 10 different contact and non-contact probes, which can measure solids, liquids, slurries, pastes, polymer melts, and gases. They are specially designed to access difficult entry points and to withstand harsh environmental conditions. 

Reflection Polymer Melt Probe (RPMP)

Objective

Built specifically for color measurement in extruded thermoplastics applications, this fiber optic reflection probe combines illumination with detection to measure reflected light and precisely monitor color.

Characteristics

  • Six illumination fibers are evenly spaced around the probe circumference
  • Illumination fibers are angled at 28 degrees from the surface normal
  • The reflected light is picked up by a single fiber at 0 degrees from the normal

Benefits

Inline color measurement of opaque materials directly in the extrudate.

Objective

Built specifically for color measurement in extruded thermoplastics applications, these 2 fiber optic reflection probes combine illumination (coming from one of the probes) with detection (on the second probe) to measure transmitted light and precisely monitor color.

Characteristics

  • One of those probes has six illumination fibers are evenly spaced around the probe circumference
  • Illumination fibers are angled at 28 degrees from the surface normal
  • The transmitted light is picked up by a single fiber at 0 degrees from the normal on the second probe

Transmission Cell

Objective

Built specifically for use in an industrial process environment, this fiber optic probe is rugged enough to operate at temperatures ranging from -30°C to 260°C and at pressures up to 207 bar (3000 psi.).

Characteristics

  • Cell has a sending and a receiving lens
  • Process liquid flows between the two lenses
  • The Cell is plumbed into the process or a sampling loop
  • Kalrez® O-rings provide the lens and compression fitting seals

Large Area Surface Probe

Objective

Built specifically for color measurement over large surfaces, this fiber optic probe combines illumination with detection to measure reflected light and precisely monitor color.  The sophisticated design features built-in rejection of specular reflections off glossy surfaces and insensitivity to the embossing of the product.

Characteristics

  • A built-in xenon flash lamp illuminates the sample 0 degrees from the surface normal
  • Seven detection fibers spaced evenly around the probe are positioned at 45-degree angles from the surface normal to detect reflected light
  • The second set of circumferential fibers detect reflected light from an internal white surface that serves as a real-time compensation channel for the source lamp

Benefits

Inline color measurement of materials with large surface areas illuminates and measures reflected light while ignoring the brightness of glossy surfaces.

Diffuse Reflectance Probe

Objective

Ideal for color measurement in liquids of any kind.  This fiber optic probe can be immersed in pressurized tanks to measure color directly in pigment dispersions such as those encountered in paints, inks, and coating materials.

ATR Probe

ATR Probe

Objective

Built specifically for measurement in chemical applications, this fiber optic transmission probe combines illumination with detection to measure transmitted light in liquids with a very high optical density.

Characteristics

  • Seven illumination fibers are located on the probe circumference
  • Illumination fibers inject light into the flat face of the ATR crystal
  • Seven detection fibers pick up the transmitted light on the opposite side of the probe circumference

Inline concentration measurement of highly absorbing liquids directly in the process.

Retro Reflection Probe

Retro reflection probe

Objective

Built specifically for use in an industrial process environment, this fiber optic probe is rugged enough to operate at temperatures ranging from -30°C to 260°C and at pressures up to 206 bar (3000 psi.).

Characteristics

  • The probe has a back-reflecting aluminum mirror for high light return at UV wavelengths
  • The aluminum layer is back-coated on a silica disk with a protective MgF2 overcoat
  • The mirror is sealed into the bottom of the probe
  • The mirror and the collimating lens are held in the steel housing with Kalrez® O-rings
